James turned 4 months old yesterday! I know I say this every month, but it goes by SO fast! He keeps growing and continuing to learn lots of new tricks! Here are his 4 month birthday pictures I took this yesterday morning:
Here are some things about James at 4 months:
- He can roll over both ways and boy does he LOVE to practice! At 3 months I knew he was very close to rolling over from his back to his stomach and by the week after he turned 3 months he was doing it! The first time he did it he was in his crib and he was mad (I was letting him cry to go to sleep) and I was watching him on the monitor intermittently. All the sudden his cry was kind of muffled so I looked at the monitor and sure enough he had turned over! He was still swaddled at the time so I freaked out and ran in there to turn him back over! We have now stopped swaddling him so he can have his arms free to turn back and forth (although when he’s mad in his crib and he turns on his stomach he gets even more mad and will not turn back!). He is now constantly rolling from his back to his stomach. In the last week he is starting to become more comfortable on his stomach while he’s playing. He’ll turn over and grab some toys…he still won’t stay on his tummy very long but he’s beginning to like it a little more.
- He is obsessed with his feet! He discovered them shortly after he turned 3 months old and he just can’t get enough of them. Anytime he is on his back he is grabbing at his feet.
- His favorite toys are: his activity play mat, his jumperoo/exersaucer (a new toy that he got for Christmas!), his doorway jumper (not sure of the exact name but it’s the one that you hang from a doorway), and just playing with toys on the floor.
- He still loves sitting up and standing up. He is really getting strong! He is going to love it when he can actually sit up on his own!
- He’s still very smiley and interactive. He has a really fun personality. He loves being around people…he seems to be very social (just like his Daddy!). He’s very ticklish so it’s fun to tickle him and get some cute giggles out of him!
- He’s still napping the same way unfortunately (were going on 2 1/2 months of short naps!!!). I was SOOO hoping that by 4 months things would be different but they aren’t. I have spoken to his doctor a couple times about this and she at first thought that it might be his reflux that was waking him up (he’s on reflux medicine) so she suggested we start him on rice cereal but that didn’t help and it upset his stomach (I don’t think his digestive system was quite ready for it). I didn’t ever think it was his reflux but I was willing to try anything. I spoke to her again earlier this week and she is at a loss of what it might be…she just said he might be one of those kids that takes short naps :(NOT what I wanted to hear!). I REALLY hope he grows out of this very soon! He is just so cranky throughout the day!
- Remember how I said I had him trained to go down to sleep with little to no crying??? Well that is not the case anymore! I don’t know what happened but he is now super hard to put down to sleep! I think one thing that might have caused this is when he was waking early from his naps I would go in there and get him back to sleep by holding him…that might have spoiled him. I was just trying to get him to sleep longer so he would be more manageable throughout the day but it has now backfired!!! I have stopped holding him now and am back to training him again. Hopefully it won’t take too long to get him back to falling asleep easier.
We go to the doctor for his 4 month check up and shots on February 1st. I will post his stats after his appointment! Each month brings more fun and new tricks! I can’t wait to see what new things he will learn this month!
